[ CARE PROTOCOL ]

Maintainthe specimen.

What is this?
Care instructions for every fiber in the SOME DOSE catalogue. By fiber type, not by season.
Who is it for?
Anyone who acquired a specimen and intends to keep it functional beyond the first wash.
What does it cost?
Reading. The protocols are complete and free of charge.
How does it work?
Select the fiber. Follow the steps. Ignore the default advice to machine wash everything on warm.

[ SELECT FIBER ]

Care by fiber.

[ UNIVERSAL PRINCIPLES ]

Principles that apply to every specimen.

How often should you wash Softwear specimens?
Less often than convention suggests. Merino wool and cashmere are largely self-cleaning between wears — air the specimen rather than defaulting to the machine. Denim benefits from extended intervals of 10–15 wears minimum. Cotton jersey is the most tolerant of routine laundering. When uncertain, consult the fiber-specific protocol.
What temperature should you wash garments at?
Cold (30°C or below) is the correct default for every fiber in this catalogue. Hot water causes shrinkage in wool and cotton, dulls silk, and resets the patina development in denim. The exception is heavily soiled cotton jersey, where 40°C is acceptable. No specimen in this catalogue should approach 60°C.
Can you tumble dry Softwear garments?
Flat drying is always preferred. If tumble drying is necessary, use the lowest heat setting and remove while still slightly damp. High heat distorts knit structures, shrinks wool and cotton, and causes irreversible damage to silk and cashmere. The tumble dryer is a convenience device, not a garment care tool.
How do you remove pilling from garments?
A fabric shaver or cashmere comb used on dry, flat fabric removes pilling without damaging the surface. Pilling is a normal consequence of surface abrasion — it is not a defect and stabilises after the first few wears as loose fibers work free. High-pile or loosely-knit specimens pill more readily than tightly-woven ones.
How do you care for garments with special finishes or embellishments?
Turn inside out and hand wash cold in all cases. Embellishments — applied rubber, photoluminescent compounds, bonded elements — are typically more resistant to water than to heat and mechanical agitation. Spot clean where possible. Avoid the tumble dryer for any specimen with surface treatments.
